This guy. André the Giant and Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan's careers in the 1980s were extremely closely linked. Initially the Heenan Family in the WWF was hell-bent on removing the big man, with a conveyor belt of challengers stepping up to the plate but failing to remove the Eighth Wonder of the World.

It is André's shocking heel turn and subsequent alignment with Heenan that sparked off the biggest feud in WWF history up to that point. Heenan was instrumental in turning André against Hogan, accusing Hulk of befriending André purely so that he wouldn't have to go up against him with the title on the line.

All of this led to the two going at it in the main event of WrestleMania III, the most iconic main event in WrestleMania history. It also launched the World Wrestling Federation into the stratosphere, a fitting tribute to the career of André the Giant.

André's last match would come at WrestleMania VI, as he teamed with fellow Family member Haku to unsuccessfully defend the WWF Tag Team Championship against Demolition. André then went back to feuding with Heenan, albeit in a less than intense fashion.

André the Giant was the Heenan Family's greatest foe, as well as its greatest ever asset.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
