What could've been.

That was the one phrase spinning around fan brains when Bray Wyatt's WWE Title run ended at the hands of Randy Orton midway through WrestleMania 33. His reign had lasted 49 days, which wasn't nearly long enough, and the bizarre visual effects WWE tried in Orlando fell flat too.

Things started so promisingly when Bray pinned both John Cena and AJ Styles to win the belt at Elimination Chamber. That, regrettably, was the sole highlight from his run (at least it was a good one). As WWE Champ, Wyatt always looked like a transitional sort after that, and his fate was sealed when Orton came knocking.

There's an argument against giving characters like Wyatt championships in the first place. They seldom need one, and Bray's flirtation with the top trinket in 2017 should act as a cruel reminder that not every wrestler should be World Champion.
