Seeing CM Punk debut on WWE TV in the summer of 2006 was a memorable moment for long time professional wrestling fans to say the least. Punk was one of the most talked about performers in the entire industry. His series of hour-long bouts with Samoa Joe were almost the stuff of legend at this point, and seeing him on WWE TV was a thrilling shock to the system.

It was also a little bittersweet, as despite the fact it was a true thrill to see the former ROH Champion on company programming he was, well, a little bland. I clearly remember these days, of talking to friends about Punk's impending debut only to have them ask me just what all the fuss was about.

Punk can't be blamed for this himself, as the early days of the revamped ECW were forgettable to say the least. Punk would become ECW's true breakout star in his tenure on the brand, but it wasn't exactly memorable. Feuds with Chavo Guerrero and a pre-awesome John Morrison probably don't live long in the memory of most.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
