The colourful history of wrestling heirs.

Wrestling loves royalty: the concept in wrestling gimmicks has been around for decades and decades. Wrestling history is littered with kings and queens, whether those titles were gained through competition or chosen for aesthetics. We all remember the Macho King, the King of Harts, King Booker, Queen Sharmell, and numerous others.

Interestingly enough, however, wrestling history isn't exactly littered with a whole host of memorable princes. Wrestling statistics heaven cagematch.net lists 96 wrestlers with 'prince' in their name, although a large number of them are princesses or men who used the prince moniker only briefly, such as Prince Togo and Prince Tonga.

There have been a whole host of prince nicknames too, from Prince Pretty to the Prince of Parkour to the Prince of Darkness. It is almost lazy at this point, but when you are referring to yourself in grandiose terms you can't go wrong with princedom.

In 2016, you have to be pretty darn talented to be able to work under a prince gimmick with more than one dimension. The 'I am better than you peasants' deal doesn't work like it once did, and by stripping away the actual royalty aspect there may be more longevity in the gimmick. Still, talent is talent.

With that in mind, let's rank the princes of wrestling, from worst to best.

7. Prince Iaukea

So, this guy. It happens a lot on the internet, but it isn't really right to lambast the abilities of any professional wrestler. It isn't an easy job to say the least, and just entering the pro-wrestling world really earns individuals the respect of the audience. It's easy to criticise, but it most certainly is not easy to do.

With that in mind, Prince Iaukea was the drizzling sh*ts. Anyone who watched WCW during the Monday Night Wars will be aware of this guy, Remarkably, he was trained by the Malenko brothers. They must have done a particularly tardy job with this guy.

Even more remarkably, Iaukea won two Cruiserweight and one Television Championships during his time in WCW, defeating Lord Steven Regal for the latter. He was always around in WCW, for no good reason whatsoever.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
