Tuesday's Smackdown in Cleveland was supposed to serve as a homecoming for Intercontinental Champion The Miz, but his grand return turned into a major announcement: at No Mercy, The Miz will put his title on the line against Dolph Ziggler's career.

Miz came to the ring with fanfare and a video package highlighting his career, then started criticizing Cleveland and LeBron James. When his talk turned to the parents of Dolph Ziggler (who were seated in the front row), however, "The Showoff" came out to defend their honor. After a back-and-forth, Dolph offered to put his career on the line for one more Intercontinental Title shot at No Mercy, and The Miz agreed.

For the past couple of months, Dolph Ziggler's portrayal has revolved around his inability to win "the big one." He failed to defeat then-WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose at SummerSlam, then lost to The Miz at Backlash (albeit after interference from Maryse). On last week's Smackdown, "The Showoff" seemed to have the title won, but a surreptitious spritz from a perfume bottle to Dolph's eyes helped The Miz walk out victorious.

No Mercy airs live on the WWE Network on October 9 at 8:00 PM ET.
