The One Thing AEW MUST Do At Full Gear 2020

Darby Allin Cody
AEW

Cody is a giving, self-aware performer who understands his role in this process. Everyone who wrestled him during his initial TNT Championship run emerged stronger than when they'd walked in, despite frequent spamming of the most overused word in wrestling by those who have forgotten what a true "burial" actually is. If he feels the timing is right, he will likely encourage a potentially career-making elevation for the man he has helped build, provided the story lines up.

It does. This is long-term booking. This is patience. If Darby fells Cody, it will be a culmination of the last 17 months. The payoff will be infinitely more satisfying than if he'd gotten his win back in January, given all that has happened to and between him and 'The Prince of Pro Wrestling' since Fyter Fest.

That Cody has made the TNT Title such a monolith helps immensely. More than a mere strap of silver, gold, and red leather, the championship is already a vital part of his legacy. No other wrestling champion, individually, has done more to elevate their title than him in 2020, and the rub for whoever topples him will be huge.

Star creation is a complex, misunderstood process. Beating Cody at Full Gear won't instantly transform Darby Allin into a star on the TNT Champion's level, but it will nudge him closer than ever before.

And that's what this is all about.
