The Rock: Every Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

26. The Game Plan (2007)

The Game Plan Dwayne Johnson
Buena Vista

History dictates that goofy, family-friendly movies starring professional wrestlers, or really athletes of any kind, are pretty much destined to be awful, so it's mildly surprising that this slushy family comedy actually rises to mediocrity and, honestly, isn't that bad.

The main reason the movie works in spite of its overt sweetness and excessive 110-minute runtime is Johnson's enthusiasm and screen presence: he fully commits to humiliating himself on-screen for our amusement, and absolutely deserves credit for that.

At its core it's basically hungover Sunday afternoon Netflix fodder, sure, but it hits a surprising amount of not-awful dramatic notes, and again, Johnson elevates the oft-sickly sweet material no end.
