Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is set to scoop the appropriately named People's Champion Award at the upcoming NBC and E! People's Choice Awards.

E! announced the news on Monday. The ceremony takes place in Santa Monica, California on Tuesday 7 December, and will be hosted by Kenan Thompson. Johnson is being honoured for his contributions to the entertainment business, entrepreneurship, and philanthropic work.

E! News and NBCUniversal executive Jen Neal said the following:-

"Dwayne is one of the most beloved actors of our time who has achieved unprecedented success throughout his career. During a period where there has been a lot of uncertainty, Johnson has displayed an uncanny ability to raise spirits and make people smile despite circumstances. His philanthropic efforts and international social media presence has made him a cultural leader and inspiration to many, making him the perfect recipient for The People's Champion Award of 2021."

Rock's new Netflix movie, Red Notice, has been promoted heavily across WWE programming over the past few days, culminating on last night's episode of Raw, when a prop egg from the film was returned to Vince McMahon after going missing at Survivor Series 2021.

Originally set to be part of this co-promotion, other commitments prevented Johnson's participation.
