The Rock Wanted To Work With Sting, Macho Man Or Rey Mysterio At WrestleMania In 2005
'I think I should work with the Ico-'...'IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!'
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson reportedly was interested in a match with either Sting, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage or Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 21.
Coming straight out of 'Good ol' JR's mouth, the former Executive Vice President of WWE talent relations stated on his Grilling JR podcast that ‘we were always talking about bringing him in (Sting). Why not? But Rock and Sting would have been cool as hell.'
He then went on to say that 'here’s the key though. Rock knew in his heart that he could get a match out of Sting, who had been dormant for quite a while, without any problem. Full confidence. And I believe that too. So anyhow, yeah it was a topic we talked about.'
So, there you have it. The Rock Vs Sting at WrestleMania 21 was seriously discussed as a potential blockbuster showdown at the event.
If that wasn't enough, Dave Meltzer soon chimed in by adding that 'Dwayne that year told me the three guys he wanted to work at Mania were Sting, Randy Savage and Rey Mysterio.' on his Twitter account.
Any of those potential matches would have gone down in 'Mania history as one of the greatest to ever grace the stage.
Yet, be it through politics, timing or scheduling all three of these clashes never came to fruition.
Who knows, perhaps Mysterio could convince 'The Great One' to dust off his boots for one last battle at 'Mania 36?
...we can dream.
