The Sad Truth Behind Cesaro’s WWE Career

A sadder truth, perhaps, is that beyond the inconsistencies typical of modern WWE, Cesaro has enjoyed—in patches—a damn good career.

That aforementioned series of matches with John Cena nestles easily in the top five pantheon of RAW’s formidable in-ring canon. Cesaro’s awesome early cameos helped define NXT as the destination of great pro wrestling. And, for all the pearl-clutching of WWE’s apathetic approach to tag team wrestling, Cesaro’s excellent genre achievements are often perceived as lesser. The man has wrestled countless exhilarating tag matches in recent years, and yet it doesn’t seem to “count” as much as the fan-cast dream singles matches that run rampant in this digital pocket of the wrestling fanbase.

Cesaro is happy with his lot. He backed up Seth Rollins’ recent, defensive rant with a fist bump emoji. He’s on good money. Speaking on the Edge & Christian Pod of Awesomeness last year, he remains driven to succeed:

“I've been with the company almost six years, and that's not really long if you look at some of the past superstars and how long it took them [to win the World title], so I always try to keep that in perspective as well.”

Perhaps, with perspective, we should be happy with his lot, too.

Then again, the fading prospect of Cesaro absolutely shredding Will Ospreay mid-flight is sadder still.
