The Secret WWE History Of Liv Morgan

On the December 30th 2019 edition of Raw, the company gambled big on the YouTube numbers generated by prior segments featuring the chaotic love triangle between Lana, Rusev and Bobby Lashley.

In the weeks leading up to the end-of-year nuptials, ludicrous set-pieces between the three had been a draw on WWE's official channel. The entire story was almost perfectly calibrated for it - starting with a long, long kiss in front of 'The Bulgarian Brute' as a summer edition of the flagship went off the air, the various brawls and bullsh*t between them made great fodder for thumbnails as people pondered just how wild things could get within the framework of a wrestling wedding. It was at the same time that the company started airing vignettes that drummed up a similar amount of interest, albeit for a character that had no obvious link to the angle. Liv Morgan had been AWOL on the main roster since The Riott Squad were needlessly split up in the 2019 Superstar Shake-Up, but teases of a transformation became the talk of the show.

Some panicked about a rehash of the 'Emmalina' catastrophe (a repackage for former NXT star Emma that took longer than intended and was dropped on Night One when it finally arrived), but in a move that felt immediately more like a mistake than a misdirect, Morgan parked wedding proceedings by making the triangle a square.
