WWE: Top 10 Kings Of The Ring

1. "Macho King" Randy Savage

"Macho Man" Randy Savage was already a superstar in WWF- having held the Intercontinental Championship for over a year, and the WWF World Championship for one year- WrestlMania IV to V. In between those two championship, he even won the King of the Ring tournament at a house show at the Providence Civic Center in Rhode Island in September of 1987, defeating Nikolai Volkoff, "Jumping" Jim Brunzell, "Dangerous" Danny Davis, and King Kong Bundy to win the tournament. At the time, the win was not acknowledged on television, and he kept the "Macho Man" nickname until September of 1989, when he defeated "King Hacksaw" Jim Duggan in a one-on-one match for the crown. From then until his retirement match at WrestleMania VII, he was known as "Macho King" Randy Savage, with "Sensational Queen" Sherri by his side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fr4d3_oIYGA Before Savage was named king, the crown was held by perennial midcarders on TV like Duggan, Haku, and (in WWF) Harley Race. When Savage- a former World Champion- took the crown, it meant something, and he made it his own. Though he did not defend the crown often, he remained near the top of the card, receiving title matches from champions Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior, and feuding most notably with "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes. Although Savage's own WWF World Title reigns happened before and after his reign as "Macho King," he made the king gimmick one worth watching, and he brought his usual "Pomp and Circumstance" to the gimmick, wearing a personalized crown, flowing robes, riding in on a throne carried by underneath wrestlers. Later, he would trade the crown and cape for frilled jackets and colorful cowboy hats, but the "Macho King" title remained until he was pinned and forced into retirement by The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VII. But those almost-two-years as The King of the WWF will never be forgotten by the many fans of the-late "Macho King" Randy Savage.
