The True Story Behind ECW's 'Mass Transit' Incident

Erich Kulas Mass Transit
VICE

Kulas assumed the role of a bus driver gimmick called 'Mass Transit' for his debut in a pro wrestling ring. Again, his inexperience was news to Heyman. The ECW boss was told that Erich had worked matches before, and even wrestled for Killer Kowalski. So, he thought nothing of putting him in there with New Jack.

Go figure.

The results were infamously disastrous. After ejecting Dudley from the ring as promised, Jack set about carving Kulas up. He battered the hapless rookie with every weapon he could find, then grabbed a surgical scalpel and cut deeply into Erich's forehead. Immediately, blood began spurting from the wound, and Kulas passed out.

There was panic, and people realised that this 'Mass Transit' was in over his head and in dire straits. That didn't stop The Gangstas from pelting Kulas with more weapons until medics finally arrived on-scene to cart him away. Regrettably for ECW, Jack then grabbed the house mic and yelled, "I don't care if the motherf*cker dies."

Camcorder footage of the house show bout was used as evidence for the courts afterwards. It was hard to deny that Jack had taken liberties with Kulas, but Heyman pulled another masterstroke by alleging that Erich's father had called Jack "the n-word" backstage as his bloody son sped away in an ambulance.

That, to Jack, was total genius.
