Extreme Rules is the annual WWE gimmick event, named in honour of the famous hardcore stipulation, where anything goes... sometimes.
The pay-per-view commonly showcases the rematches and/or endings of various feuds with extreme stipulations to intensify their rivalries and enhance their stories.
The show's position and scheduling on the calendar has fluctuated throughout the years, jumping back and forth around late April to the middle of July. Therefore, Extremes Rules could either been seen as a WrestleMania Revenge Tour equivalent or a sizzling showdown before SummerSlam.
The first ever event is noted as being a direct continuation of its predecessor, One Night Stand, the Extreme Championship Wrestling revival show which ran from 2005 to 2006. WWE would keep the title, One Night Stand, for the next two years but dropped the ECW affiliation.
Extreme Rules match types aren't the only gimmick matches to take place on it's annual card. We've seen the likes of ladders, tables, cages, street fights, straps, and even country whippings! The Superstars put their careers on the line and put their to bodies the test as you now begin to test your knowledge.
