37. Piper’s Pit Goes Loooooooong (WrestleMania V)

Looking back, although Roddy Piper was definitely one of the better talkers in the biz, the 'Hot Scot' didn't half prattle some amount of nonsense during his promos. He was engaging, energetic and knew how to work the cameras to maximum effect during interviews, but Piper existed in an era where what you said was less important than how you said it.

When focused on a specific wrestler or occasion, Roddy could nail it, but he was a meandering mess at WrestleMania V mid-Piper's Pit with Brother Love and actor Morton Downey Jr. The WWF drafted Morton in as a celeb guest, and had him blow smoke in Roddy's face towards the conclusion of the piece.

It was supposed to be edgy and fun-filled, but the skit was actually kinda flat. Piper spent most of the time arguing with Love, so this was a celeb cameo spot that just didn't land. Downey Jr, for his part, appeared totally confused as what was even going on, and it's hardly like he was gonna return to fed screens for a blowoff match or anything.

WWE have spotlighted the scene several times, but the skit was far, far, far too long. Even Bruce Prichard/Love has said via his podcast that Piper refused to wrap things up and went a tad overboard with the bickering. That would've been understandable if there was anything riding on the segment, but...there wasn't.

It didn't really lead to anything worthwhile. They gave Curt Hennig and Owen Hart just over 5 minutes for this?!
