The WORST Moment From Every WWE WrestleMania
35. An Infamous Blindfold Battle (WrestleMania VII)
Being fair right off the bat, both Jake Roberts and Rick Martel did the best they could with the blindfold gimmick at ‘Mania VII; fans were into some of the action, but the match went just a few minutes too long and left both workers with no chance. They were up against it from the off, and everyone knew it.
It perhaps says everything about how solid/forgettable WrestleMania VII was (depending on your point of view) that something this bang average ranks as the worst moment from the show. Hulk Hogan winning the WWF Title from Sgt. Slaughter in the main event wasn't an in-ring classic, but it was Hulk headlining and people still gobbled that up in 1991.
So, the blindfolded match wasn't outright terrible, but it was defo the biggest clanger of the night.
At first, it was tempting to shoe-horn something about Slaughter's anti-American turncoat gimmick in or the mediocre British Bulldog vs. Wardlord midcard match and call it a day, but nah - Martel and Roberts pretending they couldn't see one another for nearly 10 minutes gets the nod whether it's especially fair or not.
Vince McMahon arguably set the scene for how middle of the road 'Mania VII would be ahead of time when he and his WWF crew relocated indoors to the LA Memorial Sports Arena. Originally, the event was supposed to take place at the Memorial Coliseum, but the show just didn't shift enough tickets for that.
One half-hearted claim they feared snipers might take Sarge out and 'Mania retreated inside. Blind leading the blind.
