The WWE Half-Year Awards 2018
1. Best Male Wrestler: Seth Rollins
It may sound a little insensitive, but Jason Jordan's neck injury was the best thing that could have happened to Seth Rollins this year.
Before Jordan was sidelined, he and odd couple tag partner Seth Rollins were on the road to inconsequential WrestleMania filler. There's every chance they'd have put together a tidy match, but the bastardised push of the bastard son guaranteed indifference before a foot stepped through the ropes. Fate frowned on Jordan, but smiled upon Rollins, as the former's injury instead allowed the latter to shine in a spectacular Intercontinental title three-way on the grandest stage, the Architect's triumph laying the foundations for a sensational run with the belt in the months that followed.
Before relinquishing the strap to Dolph Ziggler, Seth had put together a string of brilliant performances, even drawing the best out of an otherwise patchy Elias. It's easy to mourn the interruption of such a run, but if we're lucky, it might just be in preparation of bigger things to come.
Runner-up: Finn Bálor
Seth Rollins probably wouldn't hold this title without regular sparring partner Bálor. In addition to the numerous blinding contests the pair have shared, Bálor also put in a redeeming performance at the Royal Rumble, before contributing to the terrific men's Money in the Bank match. Surely he's over enough now?
