The WWE Half-Year Awards 2018
5. Worst Match: Roman Reigns Vs. Jinder Mahal (Money In The Bank 2018)
The pair, unloved in equal measure for drastically differing reasons, never had a chance. On the night, they made sure of it.
From the get go, the crowd was entirely detached from the contest without being unbuckled by the action in the ring. It wasn't a case of disembarkment, but voluntarily refusing to get on board with an uninspired match designed to serve an unwanted ambition. The performers responded in kind, putting on a clinic in energy-sapping rest hold reversal almost in counter-protest of the fans' own.
The mentality seemed to be: if they can't be bothered, why should we? It was understandable, but eliminated any faint hopes the match had of winning the disinterested punters around. An intermission would have been more beneficial in its place - for both the fans and the wrestlers.
Runner-up: Carmella vs. Asuka (Money In The Bank 2018)
It takes virtuoso levels of incompetence to deflate a ready-made superstar like Asuka into complete flatness, but WWE completed the job with this inexplicable encounter. Asuka dominating only to be caught out by James Ellsworth would have been fine. Instead, the joke champion Carmella enjoyed the lion's share, before winning anyway. Unforgivable.
