THIS WWE Match Didn't Meet Drew McIntyre's Expectations

Drew McIntyre was left disappointed by one of 2021's biggest WWE pay-per-views.

WWE star Drew McIntyre has said his match with Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam 2021 wasn't what he had "hoped" for going in.

The SmackDown babyface told CBS Sports that the bout didn't meet his pre-show expectations at all. When asked why, McIntyre cited Becky Lynch's dramatic return and 26-second win over Bianca Belair as a possible reason why the live crowd in Allegiant Stadium were "deflated".

That happened right before Drew and Jinder marched through the curtain for their own bout.

Drew wonders if disappointment over the brevity of that SmackDown Women's Title match left he and Mahal fighting an uphill battle. That might be true, but the build going in (which obsessed over McIntyre's sword "Angela" and seemed more geared towards selling toys than promoting a pay-per-view) left a lot to be desired too.

Interestingly though, Drew did also say that "sometimes you have to be saved from yourself". He intimated that he wanted to go out there and have a lengthy match with "all the cool near falls and stuff", but WWE nixed the plan and went with a shorter, "dominant" win.

In retrospect, McIntyre said he can't be mad at that.
