TNA Lands New US Television Deal For Impact Wrestling
TNA moves to POP TV on January 5.
After months of uncertainty surrounding the future of their television show, Impact Wrestling, TNA has announced that they have reached a new television in the United States. As of January 5, TNA will begin airing Impact on POP TV, a relatively new television channel that used to be the T.V. Guide Channel. The channel is available in more United States households than Destination America, the most recent cable television home to Impact. POP TV reaches just over 80 million U.S. households (according to the network's Twitter page), compared to the 57 million household reach of Destination America. Impact Wrestling will air on Tuesday nights from 9:00 p.m. ET until 11:00 p.m. ET. This isn't the first time the network has aired pro wrestling. Paragon Pro Wrestling formerly aired on POP TV, but following the announcement of TNA coming to the channel, Paragon Pro announced that they will no longer be airing their shows on POP. https://twitter.com/PopTV/status/667371932761780225 TNA had also been in negotiations of late with WGN America, a network that TNA had discussions with just over a year ago when they ultimately moved Impact Wrestling to Destination America. WGN is a far more recognizable network in the United States, with it formerly being the national broadcast home to the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Cubs. For one reason or another, TNA couldn't reach a deal with WGN and chose the POP TV offer. It is not yet known whether TNA will be buying programming time on the network or if POP TV will pay TNA to air the show. When the long term future of the company is considered, one would hope that TNA didn't have to resort to paying POP to broadcast their television show. TNA will continue to air on Destination America until the end of 2015. Destination America previously announced this Fall that they had decided to not renew their one year agreement with TNA, which expired in October. The decision was largely due to low advertising revenue garnered by Impact Wrestling. However, the network agreed to continue to air the show until the end of the year while TNA searched for a new outlet to broadcast Impact.
