TNA Wrestling Issues Statement On Cancellation Reports
TNA officials have a counter to earlier reports.
There was a report in the Wrestling Observer that we covered earlier about how the channel Destination America planned on canceling TNA Impact Wrestling in September. To counter that report, TNA released the following statement on the matter.
Statement from TNA Regarding IMPACT WRESTLING It has come to our attention that several internet news sources have falsely attributed statements to TNA, its executives and broadcasting partner. These false statements constitute defamation and if necessary we will seek all legal remedies available to us.It's certainly understandable why they would want to come out to say that and they have every right do it. Threatening legal action seems like a bit of a stretch based on the report in the Wrestling Observer, but they are just looking out for themselves. What's interesting is that they don't specifically mention the report or their broadcasting partner Destination America by name. It's a very vague statement. This is probably TNA's way of trying to calm things down so that their roster of wrestlers and other employees aren't worried about what might happen. Then there are also other broadcasters around the world that have deals locked in with TNA that would be worried if TNA lost their American TV deal. This is one of those things where the expression "where there's smoke there's fire" might be true because Destination America has canceled all TNA programming on their network aside from Impact even though original agreement from only four months ago called for more TNA shows to be on there. They clearly aren't happy with the deal if they are cutting shows. Then they moved Impact from Friday to Wednesday, which could turn out well since more people watch TV on Wednesdays, but it's not like they planned this long term. Whether you watch TNA or not, the wrestling business is better when there are more companies out there. The story is still developing and we'll update when needed.
