TNA's The Final Deletion: 8 Things You Totally Missed
6. Jeff's True 'Armageddon'
'This match we're about to have, will be your true armageddon!'
So says Broken Matt to Jeff when the latter arrives for their bout. There are a lot of ways to take this, and you can argue whether there is any value in reading into the language of Broken Matt whatsoever. A character as over the top and as ridiculous as Broken Matt Hardy is more than likely to use vocabulary and language that sits comfortably in the 'dramatic' bracket.
That would be no fun however, so read into it I shall. 'Armageddon' could mean a number of things, not least the final battle between good and evil, a catastrophic conflict that will render both parties irrevocably changed. Moving away from simple linguistics, 'Armageddon' was also the name of a WWE pay-per-view that ran between 1999 and 2008.
The main event of that final Armageddon show saw Jeff Hardy defeat Triple H and Edge in a Triple Threat match, winning his first WWE Championship in the process. A monumental moment for Jeff, but a forgettable night for then-ECW Champion Matt, who lost to Vladimir Kozlov in the opening match of the night.
A call-back to Jeff's first WWE Championship win, or purely vocabulary coincidence?
