Don't expect to see the former NXT Champion back anytime soon.

Monday saw former NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa take to Twitter to address his WWE injury status, shooting down false internet reports that he is set to return this month.

'The World's Greatest Sports Entertainer' tweeted the following yesterday evening:-

Taking this at face value probably isn't the best idea as there's a chance Ciampa is working. If WWE have a surprise return in the works, they certainly wouldn't want him spoiling it in social media, though the extent of his injuries always made a September comeback fanciful.

February saw him and rival Johnny Gargano called up to WWE's main roster with Ricochet and Aleister Black. Two weeks later, it was reported that Ciampa would be forced to undergo neck surgery and vacate the NXT Championship ahead of his TakeOver clash with Gargano, with the man himself later tweeting that he was wrestling "on borrowed time."

Ciampa underwent an anterior cervical fusion in March. His status has remained in the balance ever since, though he has posted multiple pictures of him working out in the gym since then, sparking rumours of his return.

For now, it looks like we'll have to wait.
