Top WWE Star Set For EDGY New Character Direction (WWE News)
Cody Rhodes will "fight fire with fire" when he returns to WWE TV soon.
Self Made Pro is reporting that none other than Cody Rhodes will undergo a dramatic change in character on episodes of SmackDown soon. The former multi-time WWE Champ skipped last week's episode of blue brand fare following a vicious attack from old pal Randy Orton on the 13 March edition, but he's scheduled to be back on SmackDown this coming Friday.
That, reportedly, is when the shift in tone will happen.
A source within WWE told Self Made Pro that Rhodes will match the "edgy" feel to his WrestleMania 42 foe Orton on TV. When asked to sum it up, they explained this away as Cody deciding it's best to "fight fire with fire". Rhodes is set to appear on Pat McAfee's podcast this Wednesday, so it'll be interesting to see if there's any sign of this change there.
If not, then he's surely keeping something special back for Friday's TV.
Randy bloodied his former Legacy protege up during a contract signing segment on 13 March. Thus far, fans haven't gone with the heel turn. In fact, they've been cheering for Orton and encouraging him to be even more violent. That obviously doesn't suit what WWE's creative team has in mind for the story, so perhaps Rhodes matching that viciousness is a solid plan.
He'd be dead in the water as a babyface if he maintained his composure and tried to ask for an explanation from Randy. It sounds like this is where some of Cody's subtly heelish traits start to bleed through, which should help their 'Mania match build.
