Triple H Hits Back At Creative Criticism, Tells Talent To Work Harder (WWE News)
Triple H had some strong words for those frustrated at the same WWE stars being in the same top spots.
With WWE SummerSlam 2026 Night 1 now in the books, that event was followed by a Triple H-led press conference... where the Game hit back at criticisms about creative and the same names being in the same top spots, calling on other talents to work harder.
As Triple H said (via f4wonline):
"We’re in a period of time where there’s a lot of top performers in the top spots that, over time, have earned those spots, over time are selling tickets, and over time are really popular. So you really have to do something. The narrative of, ‘It’s my turn. I’ve been here for a while, it’s my turn,” there are no turns in this s**t. That’s not how it works. You earn the spot. Believe me, if somebody is getting over more than somebody else, we move that person into the spot and move the other person down. But it’s not just, ‘Oh, they’re getting a louder crowd reaction than everyone else.’ Are they going to be good in the spot? Are they going to hold up their end of the bargain? Are they going to screw it up if we give it to them? Are they going to make a mistake, regret giving them that spot? All those things factor in.”
In terms of what frustrated talents should do, the 14-time World Champion said they should work harder to match the reaction that the likes of Cody Rhodes and CM Punk get:
"[I'm a] big believer in if you want the spot, go take it. It’s there for everybody to take. When anyone says, ‘I don’t know why I’m not in that spot,' I don’t know, are you more over than Cody? More over than Roman? More over than Punk? Are you more over than Liv? IYO? Those are the people in that spot, get there, make those crowd reactions happen.”
While there is plenty of truth in what Triple H is saying there, one other way to frame things is that talents can only ascend to being top, top stars when given the opportunity to do so, when given the ball to run with, to let them sink or swim. As an example, where would Triple H have ended up if WWE didn't decide to give him the chance to become D-Generation X's new leader in the aftermath of WrestleMania 14? At that time, the Shawn Michaels-led DX received strong reactions largely down to the Heartbreak Kid, not a Triple H who spent 'Mania 14 defending the European Championship in a midcard rivalry. But with the opportunity to become DX's new leader, that was one of the first real steps in Trips' eventual ascension to the main event scene. Just sayin'...
A talent can put in all the work in the world, but there's still creative direction and opportunity that also have to come into play.
