10. Triple H vs. The Rock (Ladder Match) - SummerSlam 1998
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, the year where both The Rock and Triple H solidified themselves as main event level talent in the WWE was 1998. Triple H took over as the leader of D-Generation X after Shawn Michaels' exit from the company following WrestleMania XIV. He would go on to take the faction to even greater heights alongside the New Age Outlaws, X-Pac, and Chyna. Elsewhere on the WWE roster, The Rock really came into his own throughout 1998 and went on to win his first world title at Survivor Series that year. Both men had a memorable feud throughout the summer of 1998 over the WWE Intercontinental Championship, which culminated in a ladder match at SummerSlam in Madison Square Garden. It had been three years since the WWE had a high profile ladder match on pay per view (Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon at SummerSlam '95). In fact, there was only one ladder match in the WWE during all of 1996 and 1997. The pressure was on for Hunter and Rock to bring the ladder match out of hibernation and do something memorable. The result was an all time classic between two very hungry young wrestlers. Triple H came out victorious, winning his second WWE Intercontinental Championship.
