TWO Planned WWE WrestleMania 39 Matches Reportedly Scrapped

WWE wanted to book these matches for WrestleMania, but it doesn't look like they'll happen.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that WWE's plans for two massive matches at WrestleMania 39 have fallen through.

Dave Meltzer says the company wanted to book Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns vs. The Rock on each night of the big April weekender. Those bouts would've main-evented each card, but it doesn't look like either will happen in California after all.

Recent reports on The Rock claim he's struggling to free up time on his busy Hollywood schedule to commit, and that could cause WWE to pivot towards something different for Reigns. Sami Zayn is a possible backup plan, but that obviously wouldn't be as appealing to the casual market as Rocky.

Meanwhile, Austin vs. Brock must be considered one of the only true first time ever dream matches WWE has left in reserve. It could still happen if 'Stone Cold' fancies it, but creative appears to be keeping Bobby Lashley on the back burner as Lesnar's main foe in the interim.

If Austin does commit, then they could always breeze through Brock vs. Bobby at Elimination Chamber and then motor on towards 'Mania.
