Uli Latukefu Interview: Starring On Young Rock, Meeting Dwayne Johnson, People's Eyebrow, More

What's the feedback on the show been like for you so far?

Latukefu: It's been incredible, man. We came in at the top of the time slot, which is phenomenal. I'm from Australia, so understanding what that means took me a little bit, but it's been great. It's really nostalgia for a lot of people and they're really enjoying it. There's so much more to come, so I'm looking forward to it.

What was it like filming the famous fanny pack scene set to air on this week's episode?

Latukefu: Oh, it was incredible. It was so great. I came out of my trailer with the fanny pack and the chain and the turtleneck and the cast and crew were kind of like, “This is happening, this is it!” But I've been saying that probably the best thing about it is that we get some context to the photo, which is going to be really enjoyable for people.

What was your family and friends' reaction to finding out you'd be on the show?

Latukefu: It was bananas. I was with my wife when I got the call from my agent and it was quite a lengthy process. I did two auditions here in Australia and then flew over to Los Angeles and came back and had another. By the end of it, we got the phone call and we just kind of sat down in relief, but my family went bananas. I wasn't allowed to tell anyone until it was released. They were like, “Why didn't you tell us! This is crazy! You're playing Dwayne?” By that stage, I was already focused in on the work. It's been incredible.
