Uli Latukefu Interview: Starring On Young Rock, Meeting Dwayne Johnson, People's Eyebrow, More

How did you first become a fan of Dwayne?

Latukefu: Wrestling! I started watching probably when he turned heel and became a bad guy during the Attitude Era. That's when I was like, “This guy is cool.” From that point, wrestling [is where I was familiar with him] and then from that transitioning to when he went into movies. In the early stage, I was still pretty young but I said, “That's a pretty bold move to leave wrestling with so much love.” He was loved, he was The People's Champ, and then making the transition at the time I thought, “Man, this guy's got some stones.” And here we are, he's one of the biggest blockbuster actors out there. That's kind of been my following of his career so far.

How far does your wrestling fandom go back?

Latukefu: My cousin used to watch WWF. My earliest childhood favorite was Ultimate Warrior. There was Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, Andre the Giant was super cool, and then Blue Blazer. He was cool. Mr. Perfect I found funny as hell. My cousin put me in a figure-four leg-lock all the time and would throw me against the couch, so I grew up with that. That's about as far back as I remember.

How long did it take you to nail "The People's Eyebrow"?

Latukefu: Dude, everyone in my circle was doing The People's Eyebrow. The funny thing was, when we did a photoshoot, I got it on lock. This is the one. And then it turned out to be the other [eyebrow], so I went back and drilled this thing. Everyone was doing The People's Eyebrow.

What more can fans of the show look forward to in the remainder of the season?

Latukefu: Just more fun, dude. There's so many fun stories that Dwayne has and I actually think the danger with that is people walking away and not really knowing that actually happened. That Waffle story really did happen. That's a wild story. There's so much more to come. It's so much fun and obviously, there's a whole bunch of family stuff, which is really beautiful. It just feels like a well-rounded show to me.
