The Ultimate Warrior: His 10 Best Matches

8. Ultimate Warrior vs. Randy Savage - SummerSlam 1992

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0Z0XJr3gKE In 1992, babyface vs. babyface matches were extremely rare. When the WWF champion Randy Savage faced off against the Ultimate Warrior at SummerSlam 1992, fans were torn about who to support. Randy Savage had just defeated Ric Flair at WrestleMania VIII and was experiencing somewhat of a career renaissance. The Ultimate Warrior had recently returned after a brief hiatus and was booked against the champion after a feud with Papa Shango. The 1992 SummerSlam took place in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, headlined by the Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog Intercontinental title match. However, the real intrigue was with the Warrior vs. Savage match because of the storyline surrounding it. Former champion Ric Flair and his manager Mr. Perfect had promised to be a factor in the match, having been upset and not receiving a title shot at the pay-per-view. Flair promised to be in the corner of the champion at the end of the match but did not specify who he was talking about. What resulted was a storyline of Savage and Warrior not trusting each other and each expecting the other to join Flair at the event. Originally, the plan was for Warrior to turn heel (thus explaining the position of this match on the card) and join Flair. Warrior actually vetoed that plan backstage, resulting in a screwy count out finish win for Warrior. However, the match itself was full of intrigue and Savage, as usual, led Warrior to a very good match.
