The Ultimate Warrior's 5 Best Feuds

2. Randy Savage

Though the Ultimate Warrior was limited in his ability to produce a great match with most wreslters, he proved capable of having a memorable match when paired with someone of outstanding ability. Someone like "Macho Man" Randy Savage. The pair's first high profile match occurred when they met at WrestleMania VII in Los Angeles for a "career threatening" match. At this point in time, Savage was portraying himself as the "Macho King" with "Sensational" Sherri Martel. Two months prior, Savage had caused Warrior to lose his WWE title to Sergeant Slaughter at the Royal Rumble. Savage, who had been dismayed for Warrior refusing him a title shot, attacked Warrior during the match with his metal scepter and setting the stage for a WrestleMania match between the two. The match at WrestleMania VII, which Warrior won, was arguably the best match of the Warrior's career. His match with Hogan at WrestleMania VI the year prior was certainly incredibly memorable and a huge moment for his career, but the match with a ring technician like Savage proved to be more technically sound and polished. After losing the match, Savage was now forced to retire as per the rules going in. Savage reunited with his longtime manager Miss Elizabeth following the match (she was in the crowd and came to his rescue when Sherri turned on him), and the Macho Man then went into a brief stint announcing matches. Savage and Elizabeth were famously "married" (they had really married back in 1984) at SummerSlam 1991, and all it took to lure Savage back to the ring was Elizabeth opening a wedding present from Jake Roberts that revealed a snake (to Elizabeth's horror). By this time, the Warrior was out of the WWE due to a contract dispute. Savage feuded with Jake Roberts throughout the fall of 1991 and went on to capture the WWE title once more in 1992 from Ric Flair at WrestleMania VIII. Meanwhile, the Warrior was able to come to contractual terms with the WWE and made his return, also at WrestleMania VIII. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vmoONd3CtE The stage had been set for one more big PPV matchup between the Warrior and Savage, this time for the WWE's biggest prize. They met in a match for Savage's WWE title at SummerSlam 1992 in front of 80,000+ people at Wembley Stadium in England. The match was another stellar performance and Warrior was again victorious (by count-out, Savage kept the belt). It is worth noting that the only two matches of Warrior's career rated four stars (out of five) or higher in Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer newsletter were these two matches with Randy Savage. The WrestleMania VII match received ****1/4 and the SummerSlam '92 match received ****.
