The Undertaker Losing The Streak Was Decided 4 Hours Before WrestleMania 30

The latest edition of the Jim Ross podcast featured WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels as his guest. The discussion focused on what Michaels is doing these days and then of course Ross fired off a question about what Michaels thought about Undertaker losing to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30 to end his undefeated streak. Michaels admitted that he was surprised that Undertaker lost. Ross was too. Michaels also mentioned that the final decision about Undertaker losing wasn't made until about four hours before the show took place. It's not like Michaels said it as an offhand comment. He said it directly as they were discussing what happened. He likely got the info from somebody really close to the decision making process because he was in New Orleans for WrestleMania weekend. Michaels also mentioned that there was one person that had the power to make the call and that's what he did. He didn't say Vince McMahon's name specifically although that's who he was referring to. While he was surprised that Undertaker lost, he was also confident that McMahon had a good reason for his decision and that's something we will have to see play out over time. While Michaels did say that that the Undertaker's loss was decided upon four hours before the show, it's likely a case of McMahon thinking about it for weeks beforehand prior to coming to his final decision. It's not like he got to the Superdome in New Orleans and decided that day to get it done. It was probably on his mind a lot and for whatever reason he went ahead with having Lesnar win the match. Like Michaels said, McMahon likely has a good reason for doing it. If he doesn't, that would be a shame although there's nothing anybody can do about it now. There was also a point in the podcast where Ross said he talked to Undertaker briefly on WrestleMania Sunday prior to his match with Lesnar. He asked how many more matches Undertaker had left. All Undertaker said was he would know in a few hours. As we know, Undertaker suffered a concussion in the match with Lesnar and at 49 years old there are serious questions about whether he will ever wrestle again. The rest of the podcast featured discussions about what match Michaels liked more between his classic with Undertaker at WrestleMania 25 and then the rematch at WrestleMania 26 that was his last match. He said both of them were special in their own way with the WM25 match recognized as one of the best ever while the WM26 battle was also very important because it was his last match. One thing is for sure. Undertaker's WrestleMania loss really has the wrestling world buzzing and it was very interesting to hear Michaels' take on the subject because of the history he had with Undertaker.
