Is the Undisputed Era finished?

This was the question hanging ominously in the air as NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day drew to a close last night, thanks to the actions of Adam Cole, who turned on NXT Champion Finn Balor and stablemate Kyle O'Reilly.

Balor had just defended his championship in a hard-hitting battle with Pete Dunne. The fallen challenger's allies Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan came out to attack Balor, before Undisputed Era (sans the injured Bobby Fish) made the save. With the villains neutralised, O'Reilly helped Balor to his feet before Undisputed posed with Finn, seemingly showing respect for NXT's 'Prince.'

This was shattered when Cole almost took Balor's head off with a Superkick. With O'Reilly got in his face, protested, and called it "bullsh*t", Cole decided to Superkick him as well, leaving Roderick Strong looking confused and conflicted in the background.

A hot, landscape-shifting angle executed well, WWE will no doubt be hoping it breathes life into the NXT product. There will likely be a follow-up and clarification on Undisputed Era's future on this Wednesday's show, but either way, a third NXT Championship match between Balor and Cole in as many years now looks inevitable.
