Untold Story Behind WWE Champion Drew McIntyre

Drew Galloway WCPW
Oli Sandler/The Ringside Perspective

Less than a month later, WCPW headed to Orlando for its first American show. As part of WrestleMania weekend, hundreds of fans packed into the Orlando Sports Center in Florida for State of Emergency. The show ticked over largely without incident; Bobby Fish scored a win over David Starr and Michael Elgin, Ricochet worked El Ligero, Joey Ryan did some stuff with his dick and, in the main event, Galloway defended the WCPW Championship against Rampage. He won.

Things wrapped up early for that show as most people involved had the small matter of NXT TakeOver to cover that evening, but a small series of 'Well Done Us' drinks were loosely planned for both crew and talent after the event. Drew was of course invited, thanked everyone for asking, but politely declined. He'd be unable to attend anything tonight as he had something on.

Smash cut to TakeOver and, mere moments after Asuka had just about survived her match against Ember Moon, cameras cut to ringside to proudly show a beaming Drew Galloway sat in the front row. The words on the screen read Drew McIntyre, the capacity crowd in the Amway Center universally roared approvement... save for the four young lads in seats 12-16, Row F, Section 221 who just slowly exchanged incredibly confused looks.

"If that's not clear enough for everybody, Drew McIntyre has signed with NXT".

Now, if this was where our story ended then it would simply be some aggrieved tale of how WWE came calling and one man immediately forgot both his responsibilities and his own surname. But it's not. This is a story about the path one man set himself on, the various roads he took to get there, and the part one of them played in helping him arrive at that destination...
