Update On WWE's Short-Term Plans For GUNTHER

WrestleMania looms for GUNTHER, but what does WWE have in store for him first?

GUNTHER's WrestleMania opponent is still unclear, but the reigning Intercontinental Champion is about to get a short-term opponent in the interim.

WWE has announced that Madcap Moss, Rey Mysterio, Karrion Kross and Santos Escobar will compete in a Fatal-4-Way match on next week's edition of SmackDown to determine a new number one contender. Then, the winner will get a singles crack at GUNTHER's gold "at a later date".

The promotion didn't confirm it, but that bout would likely take place at Elimination Chamber on 18 February - that'd get the IC Title on the card, and presumably give GUNTHER a routine title defence before turning his attention to 'Mania 39.

It's worth noting that WWE has placed two babyfaces and two heels in the match. Mysterio would be the obvious pick as winner due to his star power and history with the champ, but Triple H may wish to give the overlooked Madcap Moss a little shunt up the pecking order.

Or, maybe 'The Game' will reward Karrion Kross by putting him in there heel vs. heel with GUNTHER. Meanwhile, Escobar winning would have to be considered a total shock.
