Vince McMahon's 10 Biggest Successes
1. National Expansion
For
better or worse, McMahon changed the industry forever.
He
spit on the handshake deals of his father’s peers, invading their territories
and raiding their talent. He utilized the emerging power of cable television to
reach audiences across the country, opening their eyes to the larger-than-life
characters of WWE. He expanded his company’s epicenter from the Northeast to
America, and then the world.
In
2001, McMahon finally defeated his last competitor, buying WCW for a measly sum
and establishing a monopoly on pro wrestling. His takeover made him a
billionaire and propelled his once family-owned, private company into a
publicly traded empire, an American institution. He has cemented his legacy as
the Walt Disney of sports-entertainment.
