Vince McMahon's 10 Biggest Successes
9. Monday Night Raw
For
nearly a quarter century, WWE’s flagship show has aired in primetime on Monday
nights. It’s evolved from 60 minutes to two hours to a mind-numbing three hours
and 15 minutes, from airing live once a month to every week, from the intimate
setting of the Manhattan Center to large sports arenas across the country and
around the world.
Raw
changed the landscape of televised pro wrestling, switching from the
traditional studio format of squash matches and interviews to an episodic
series in front of a live crowd. Although Eric Bischoff deserves much credit
for influencing Raw during the Monday Night Wars, injecting an aura of
unpredictability while featuring marquee matches on free TV, McMahon remains
the driving force behind the former ratings juggernaut and current centerpiece of
sports-entertainment.
