Vince McMahon Reportedly Given Up On Ricochet

That Super Showdown squash match suddenly has a lot more context...

It's not been a good week for Ricochet. On the back of eating an almost comical squash at the hands of Brock Lesnar (huge surprise there) at Super ShowDown, he suffered the ignominy of competing for the 24/7 title and losing again to Riddick Moss on Raw.

Fans rightly reacted to that booking by fearing that he's being buried by creative and it's probably true to suspect that there aren't any plans to suddenly start booking him in an extended losing streak to build up his mythology as a valiant underdog. Even with the glimmer of him earning a shot against Lesnar, the manner of his destruction didn't feel like a narrative decision as much as further opportunity to marvel at Beast Incarnate. Pandering to the crowd in the Middle East.

And watching Ricochet leave the arena after his loss to Moss on Raw, he didn't look like a man looking forward to being built up in a long play. According to fan footage, he looked pissed...

There's now a little more context to the whole situation and it looks like fans are right to be concerned about Ricochet's booking and the reflection of his position in the company. Because, according to Dave Meltzer, Vince McMahon has given up on The One And Only and is consciously set on burying him.

Meltzer's comments come in the latest Wrestling Observer Radio [h/t Ringside News] and it doesn't sound great:

“I don’t know what the mentality is. Obviously… Ricochet’s done. I mean maybe they will… but, it’s Vince! You know he may change his mind next week, but this week he’s done. He’s so done. You know this was a burial without a doubt.”

“Who knows? He just gets these things in his head like with Cedric Alexander he was supposed to get a big push and Vince just buried the guy and now he’s burying another guy.”

Inevitably, everyone with half on eye on AEW will start hyping Ricochet as the next big signing for Tony Khan's company, but that's probably premature given Ricochet only signed a couple of years ago. And it's not like it's out of the realms of possibility for McMahon to sit on a talent he has no interest in to stop anyone else using them better...

What do you think?
