Well, That Was The Worst WWE Career Ever

Rob Gronkowski

There's something morbidly hilarious about the idea of Rob Gronkowski surveying the situation at WrestleMania 36, recalling how awful the *regular* NXT roster is at catching dives, and saying: "This is a hairy predicament. There's a not inconsiderable risk of enduring head trauma. Nuts to this: I'm going to do something safer, i.e. resume my football career!"

In the aftermath of WrestleMania, the Gronk wasn't conspicuous by his absence because the whole, rancid business felt like a fever dream. Then R-Truth started calling him Tom Brady in backstage vignettes, dragging a gifted comedy performer into this doomed orbit of dogsh*t. The Gronk responded on last week's RAW to set up this week's comedy title switch and storyline write-off, delivering in the process the worst promo of the year. Gronk looked at the teleprompter so obviously it was as if he were cutting a promo on your balls.

"R-Truth? More like R-Lies," he said, before saying an incredible amount of words in sequence that he naturally struggled with, because most real human beings don't do this. You have to be a WWE Superstar to do this, and the Gronk's heart wasn't in it.
