Drew McIntyre might not be active on WWE television at the moment, but the former world champion has been busy behind the scenes.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson reports that the Scot has completed the process of becoming a naturalised American citizen. This is since taking time away from WWE, which commenced after his WrestleMania 39 defeat in an Intercontinental Title Triple Threat with GUNTHER and Sheamus.

Johnson adds that there are currently no fresh updates to report on McIntyre's WWE contractual status, which has hung in the balance since news of his expiring deal broke around WrestleMania season. It is understood that the former WWE Champion's contract with the promotion expires in early 2024. As Drew is currently injured, however, WWE may opt to add further time.

PWInsider reports that McIntyre and WWE are yet to agree on a contract extension. Drew had been spotted flying out of the New York area last week, though there is no word on whether or not this was for contract talks.

Fightful Select reported a few weeks ago that McIntyre was at least open to exploring other options should he and WWE not reach terms.
