5. Brodus Clay

The release of Brodus Clay was a bit surprising. He has a unique look and was pretty solid on the microphone when given the opportunity. He also basically did everything that was asked of him, as he played the one-note Funkasaurus instead of being pushed as a killer heel. WWE briefly tried to repackage him later in his run but quickly gave up on the entire idea, shipped him down to NXT, had him put over Neville, and then released him.

Just over three months later he showed up on Impact as the bodyguard of EC III. It was a much better fit for him. It seemed like the company was actually headed somewhere with his character. They gave him a slow burn as he later won the Gauntlet For The Gold match (the TNA equivalent of Money in the Bank)...but he never used it.

To this day he’s never received any sort of decent heel push, as he’s been cast simply as the muscle for one act after the next: Matt Hardy, Eli Drake, Bruce Prichard. At 44-years-old, another run in WWE just isn’t going to happen and a world title win on Impact won't either. Still, since his release three years ago he’s enjoyed consistent employment on a nationally televised product. That’s quite a bit better than many former WWE talent have fared.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
