What If... Cody Rhodes NEVER Finishes His Story In WWE
Struggling to find a way to beat the numbers game once - even with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in his corner - was heartbreaking, sure. But it was also somewhat understandable. Once again failing to take down Reigns at 'Mania XL, though - whether in a Bloodline Rulez nonsense-fest or straight-up one-on-one battle - would sadly transform Rhodes from cheated underdog to two-time main event bottler in a flash.
Just like that, WWE will have wasted another golden opportunity to create a genuine new top megastar - someone they could have quite realistically built the company around for the next five years or more.
A near-perfect poster boy for all things sports entertainment. A brave, driven, actually quite hilarious, and sympathetic leading man. Rhodes is John Cena if 'Super Cena' felt like an actual human being, with relatable flaws, believable promos, and consistently outstanding in-ring work.
That sort of full babyface package simply does not come around every year - or even every decade. So, having the bloke who wonderfully accepted an offer to be a fan's best man permanently settle into that role on-screen and never be the groom could cost the white hot company a potentially (even more) lucrative future.
Rhodes is a bona fide draw currently - the regular Raw and house show sell-outs prove it. But those impressive numbers could begin to drop if folks lose their faith in not just 'The American Nightmare', but WWE as a whole should this story never get its glorious ending...
