A WWE higher-up has moved to dismiss talk that the promotion doesn't see Sami Zayn as a main-event-level wrestler.

Fightful Select has reported as much. The higher-up, who spoke anonymously, called Zayn "'1B' for the biggest storyline in the company," dismissing recent rumours that the promotion didn't see Sami as a fitting headliner.

The executive added that anyone spreading such speculation was either lying or not watching the product. It was stated that WWE put a series of plans together for Zayn and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, which Sami ultimately failed to win at Elimination Chamber 2023. However, this doesn't mean WWE doesn't see him at that level, and the higher-up regards him as the company's MVP since last Summer.

Said the staff member:-

"He's headlined a PPV, he is the focal point of our biggest shows. He's main eventing WWE Raw, and is "1B" for the biggest storyline in the company. Elimination Chamber didn't happen in his hometown by accident. For anyone to say that we don't view him as a top guy just hasn't been watching the program or are fabricating things. We had a solid set of plans in order both for him and the championship. Just because he isn't competing for the championship, doesn't mean he isn't viewed at that level. He's been the MVP since last Summer, and I couldn't see many disagreeing with that point."

Zayn and Kevin Owens will challenge for The Usos' WWE Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 39, continuing an important chapter of the ongoing Bloodline storyline.

Fightful's source praised Sami for how easy he had been to work with through his push. He and Owens had been earmarked for the tag title program since November 2022.

Speculation that WWE didn't view Zayn as a headliner was particularly strong in the aftermath of Elimination Chamber, where, in his Montreal hometown, Sami was beaten by Roman Reigns. That defeat came amidst WWE's strongest men's babyface push since Kofi Kingston's run towards becoming world Champion at WrestleMania 35.
