WWE give Adam Pearce a new assistant on SmackDown - you won't believe who!
Sonya Deville has apparently become Adam Pearce's new assistant on WWE SmackDown.
Deville quietly returned in a backstage segment on last week's show, but it wasn't clear what the company had in store for her. Most probably expected that Sonya would declare herself for the women's Royal Rumble on 31 January - that could still happen, but she has other duties...for now.
Pearce proudly welcomed Deville into office on the show. She then linked back to her prior feud with old pal Mandy Rose by saying there was no bitterness over Mandy's move to Raw or new tag-team with Dana Brooke on Monday nights.
That's that then.
WWE are slowly creeping back into old habits with this soft-GM and assistant GM stuff. Some will point to Pearce's work over the past few months and say the authority figure trope never fully went away though. It's hard to argue that; Pearce is basically SmackDown's full-time decision-maker these days.
Who knows what Sonya's exact role will be going forwards. Will she be in charge of the women's division? Is she there to play devil's advocate and favour the heels? It's anyone's guess.
