This past Sunday's Royal Rumble has been widely and quite rightly hailed as one of the finest editions of the long-running establishment, with the eponymous men's match in particular drawing rave reviews.

One of the key components of that contest - ultimately won by Drew McIntyre - was Brock Lesnar's extremely entertaining opening gauntlet, which saw The Beast eliminate no fewer than thirteen of his hapless colleagues before he was finally subdued by the Scottish Psychopath.

It turns out the WWE Champion - as well as on-screen advocate Paul Heyman - had a lot to do behind the scenes with making the match such a triumph.

The latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that both Lesnar and Heyman gave direct input in how the opening of the men's Rumble would play out. Vince McMahon - rather obviously - devised much of the match's conclusion. The beats of 30-man contest itself were laid out by Shane McMahon, as well as producers Lance Storm, Jamie Noble and Chris Park.

Conversely, Triple H is said to have had a major hand in ensuring the women's version achieved its objectives. Adam Pearce, Mickie James, Michael Hayes and Tyson Kidd produced the details.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
