Why AEW Reshuffled Their Announce Team At Fyter Fest

Was Goldenboy for Alex Marvez a permanent substitution?

All Elite Wrestling's Fyter Fest pay-per-view saw the young promotion reshuffle their announce team, with NFL reporter Alex Marvez moved out of the lineup in favour of the similarly-named Alex 'Goldenboy' Mendez - a professional esports commentator.

While Marvez was backstage shooting content for other shows, he didn't make it to the booth all night. Instead, 'Goldenboy' worked the whole show, winning widespread critical acclaim for his complimentary performance alongside Jim Ross and the outstanding Excalibur.

Per PW Insider, this move came about as a result of AEW's partnership with the CEO Gaming convention. Fyter Fest was created for the same reason, and this is also why CEO head honcho Alex Jebailey was on the show, wrestling Michael Nakazawa in a Buy In comedy match. Noted gamer Kenny Omega is believed to be the "point person" for the deal.

Whether or not 'Goldenboy' makes it back to AEW remains to be seen, though his performance received a warmer response than Marvez' at Double Or Nothing. He's an inexperienced wrestling announcer, but sounded great alongside his veteran colleagues, and didn't feel out of place at all. Here's hoping AEW utilise his services again in the future.
