Why Triple H And Vince McMahon Are Destined For A Huge Fallout

Triple H Vs. Vince McMahon is heading for the Three Stages of Hell rubber match...

Johnny Gargano is sad
WWE

The NXT as you know it is dead.

Per Wrestling Observer Radio and the last calendar year in general, Vince McMahon, who never seemed to care about NXT and now actively seems to resent it, has sh*t-canned the brand as a brand in itself. In the three most quintessentially Vince McMahon words ever uttered - they speak to his very core, they're wildly problematic and behind the times, and they are so dispassionately and suddenly blunt - there are to be "no more midgets" in NXT. This report followed the shocking news of an enormous wave of releases handpicked - and this really is wild - by Vince, Bruce Prichard, and John Laurinaitis. Johnny Ace has replaced Triple H in the heart of Vince McMahon.

Imagine reading that sentence in 2015, when NXT made its euphoric debut at the major arena and Laurinaitis had long since been demoted from Head of Talent Relations. You're reading it in 2021 because, disgusted that Triple H's project was bounced out of the cable rankings by AEW Dynamite, Vince has had enough. No longer will NXT function as a super-indie with a big budget. It is reverting back to a strictly developmental system that will exclusively recruit large talents in their 20s. This likely won't work. Already, the firings of Bobby Fish and Mercedes Martinez indicate that there is no canniness here. This is possibly hyperbole, but well-drilled lummoxes are of more importance to WWE's polished approach than well-rounded professional wrestlers that happen to have been recruited from athletic backgrounds.

NXT was always perceived as developmental internally. Always.
