Why WWE Almost Recreated One Of Raw's Most Controversial Angles

WWE's Drake Maverick once wanted to recreate a PG version of the "Live Sex Celebration" between Edge and Lita from 2006.

The rehired utility man, who shone as part of the 24/7 Title division last year, told Metro UK that he pitched an angle that would've seen him strip for his real-life wife Renee Michelle on TV. Had WWE gone along with the plan, then Maverick would have played the segment for laughs by bumbling his way through the "sexy" routine.

WWE turned the idea down.

Drake planned to spoof Edge and Lita's sultry in-ring segment by repeatedly falling over, but getting back up "like nothing had happened". That would've led to some annoyed facial expressions from Michelle that could've been comedy gold.

Maverick's character was obsessed by two things in 2019. He wanted to consummate his marriage and he wanted to be 24/7 Champ for as long as possible. It's arguable that WWE never made the most of the couple's natural on screen chemistry.

Spoofing the "Live Sex Celebration" would have been a gas. Instead, WWE booked a hotel room invasion from R-Truth and other silly skits.
