Why WWE Needs A NEW Pipebomb Moment

In such a destructive environment, creativity is only possible through destruction. Triple H recognises this, hence his Picasso-inspired Creator/Destroyer gimmick circum-2016. If only we found ourselves at The Game’s start screen.

Perhaps that is a fanciful notion, after all. Scott Dawson, the better promo of the two, is hardly on Punk’s level - but this near-desperate degree of bargaining, if nothing else, illustrates how sorely-needed change is.

Such a change could mount an irreversible trajectory. If Punk created an insatiable demand for a new in-ring language - and really, there was no going back to then likes of R-Truth, PPV headliner, at least not without a token supporting cast of state-of-the-art performers - Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder may create their own irreversible turning point. That was the power of the Pipebomb, the very reason behind its name in this new context. It was an explosion that detonated unrecoverable ground, something so seismic in impact that the only option left was to rebuild.

To this day, fans rain down chants of “CM Punk” when confronted with lifeless dirge they care not a thing for. The man himself is much-missed, of course, but equally, so is his spirit. The spirit of the Pipebomb is there to invoke.
