Why WWE WrestleMania 38 Reeks Of Desperation

Cody Rhodes
AEW / WWE

A returning superstar who has been out of the company for a long time can really shock the system and jolt the fanbase. Those who remember the superstar from yesteryear will be psyched to see them, looking back through rose-colored glasses.

These coups are fewer and farther between ever since WCW disappeared and any potential holdovers either debuted or retired. The Hardys’ surprise return at WrestleMania 33 might have been the last such instance. But WWE has a potential ace up its sleeve if the stars align.

Cody Rhodes’ departure from AEW last month has opened the door to a potential return to the company he left five-plus years ago. The speculation has been rampant since the announcement more than two weeks ago, though recent developments have cast some doubt.

Still, if this happens, WWE undoubtedly will hype it to the hilt, trying to capture any fan – including AEW diehards – who will be curious what Cody has to say, and what he’ll do. This one is far from confirmed, and really, you can’t blame WWE for having this dropped in their lap. But we still have to note it here.
